It is difficult to ignore the opposition to the proposed monstrosities which Karis and partners want to build on the site of the King Alfred in Hove but I suspect it will be ignored.

It seems to me that Hove has not benefited in any way since we have had City status, apart from the odd community scheme.

The streets of Hove have become dirtier, especially the centre, and most of the council's money seems to have been spent on schemes in Brighton.

Hove has been sold down the river, as the saying goes, and if or when the Karis scheme is approved, it could stand as a lasting monument to the stupidity of the minority "New" Labour administration.

DA Coles (Letters, August 26) writes about Labour's socialist principles and social conscience but most people have realised these principles are now consigned to history.

Jenny Barnard-Langston (Letters, August 26) makes a very good point in questioning where the opposition is to the council.

Quite frankly, there is none.
