Alan Pook admits he still does not know his best plan of attack at Worthing, despite a 7-0 romp.
Peter Brackley scored the last three goals in a 13-minute spell as Rebels outclassed Ash United in their FA Cup preliminary round tie at Woodside Road.
But it was Sam Francis who was the star of the show.
He scored once himself and could claim six assists.
Francis started up front with Mark Knee, who was feeling under the weather and went off straight after making it 4-0 on 51 minutes.
Brackley then partnered Francis down the middle with Wes Lopez and Ben Carrington providing bullets from wide positions.
To add to the intrigue, Gavin Geddes was at the ground and is about to start talks with Pook about a return to Woodside.
Pook said: "I still haven't decided on my best attacking formation for home games. It's just a case of people gelling with each other.
"Peter Brackley has been away on holiday and had got a point to prove.
"We've got competition for places throughout the club but not up front, but we will get that."
Pook was unhappy with an opening half-hour in which Carrington's diving header was the only threat.
Francis teed up Paul Rogers to roll home his first Worthing goal on 30 minutes, then added a 25-yard drive which went under goalkeeper Jez Jukes.
Chris Dicker, another to greatly impress the boss, sent a superb left-footed free-kick dipping and curling over the wall after Francis had been pulled back on the edge of the area after 50 minutes.
Seconds later Francis committed both his hapless marker Stuart Woodhouse and Jukes before squaring for Knee to hammer into an unguarded net.
More good work by Francis set up Brackley's trio of right foot finishes, the second of them a somewhat fortunate volley which went straight into the ground before rearing up and over the bemused goalkeeper.
Horsham went down 2-1 at Queen Street to a Newport IoW side they dominated for 80 minutes.
Gary Charman headed Hornets in front from Lee Carney's 17th minute corner and it looked as though the floodgates would open.
Simon Ullathorne, Steffan Ball, Carlo Castrechino, Charman, Eddie French and Carney all failed to convert chances, with Newport not threatening until the 76th minute, when Liam Gearing headed on to the left post.
Gearing shot through a crowded six yard box to equalise on 82 minutes and Christopher Bridges headed in three minutes from time.
Horsham boss John Maggs said: "They must be thinking it's their lucky day."
