I don't think triple pay for one day is much compensation for doing one of the most unpleasant and physically demanding jobs.
If dustmen were offered a rise commensurate with the one given so readily to David Panter and other executives, they wouldn't have to make such demands.
Many jobs simply don't have wages which reflect their importance, creating huge inequalities and meaning nearly one in three children in the UK lives in poverty.
I would ask any readers paying the higher rates of council tax to reflect on this before bemoaning the state of the City's rubbish collection.
Also spare a thought for the low paid workers who will tend you if you need hospital treatment or personal care.
Until there is less disparity between rich and poor, these conflicts will inevitably go on.
And, yes, my rubbish was not collected last week.
