Village fetes usually mean visitors putting their hands in pockets for entertainment and worthy causes.
But Angmering's Family Fun Day on September 14 will be a fete with a difference - because everything is free.
St Margaret's Community Church has invited everyone in the village to the event, from noon to 5pm in Fletcher's Field, and is not asking the public to pay a penny for the live music, bouncy castles and other "mega inflatables", barbecue and puppet shows. Even the burger bar is free.
Angmering Social Club held a similar event last year to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee, as well as one in June this year.
The Reverend Mark Standen said: "Both occasions were well organised, and much enjoyed by many people.
"They are chances for members of our large village to have a party together.
"So the idea of a family fun day is not new but there is something radical about our event on September 14 and it's simply this- the whole event is completely free.
"You won't be charged for entrance on to the field, nor for entry to any of the attractions, nor even for a drink or beefburger or hotdog from the barbecue.
"St Margaret's Church has decided we don't want to use this fun day as a fund-raiser, either for ourselves or for others.
"We want to give it free, as a present, from us to the village.
"As those who have experienced God's generosity ourselves, we want to be generous ourselves.
"We want to be generous with our time, with our gifts and even with our money.
"The fun day is a token of our love for the village of Angmering and comes with our very best wishes.
"We can be suspicious, even cynical, of free gifts but let me say there really are no strings attached to this."
