Musical stars of the future will have the chance to shine at a celebrity-studded festival run by BBC Radio 1.

The station is setting up camp in Brighton and Hove for a week, bringing with it the cream of the pop and clubbing world.

Disc jockeys John Peel, Sara Cox, Zane Lowe and the Dreem Teem will present shows for the One Live event, which in past years has resulted in participating cities such as Nottingham being put firmly on the musical map.

Running alongside the headline acts, the station is supporting local musical talent by organising One Live Alternative, a series of events made up entirely of acts from the area.

Like the main attractions, the up-and-coming bands and DJs will play at a variety of venues across the city from October 27 to November 2.

Co-ordinating One Live Alternative are Brighton-based band and club promoters Anna Moulson, from Melting Vinyl, and Lisa Lout.

Anna said: "It's brilliant that Radio 1 is bringing the whole One Live event to Brighton.

"If you're a band, DJ or promoter who wants to get involved in One Live Alternative, get in touch by email to find out what to do."

A Radio 1 spokesman said: "Brighton is bursting with music makers and we really want to give as many people as possible the choice to be a part of One Live Alternative. People out there should get sending in their information."

The line-up of One Live is still a closely guarded secret and will be announced later this month.

Last year's event attracted The Streets, Doves and Queens Of The Stone Age.

The spokesman said: "We are really, really looking forward to coming to the city. One Live is something we do each year and it's always massive. Brighton will be no exception.

"Last year we had great bands on show and the calibre of this year's will be just as exciting."

Anyone interested in taking part should send their details to radio1live@bbc.co.uk and they will be sent information on how to get involved.
