Whitehawk got their season back on track with a 3-0 defeat of East Grinstead in the John O'Hara League Cup.
Goals from Simon Rowland, the impressive Ryan McBride and Tommy Pattenden gave Hawks a comfortable win.
Manager Ian Chapman said: "Hopefully this is the start of things. I was very pleased with how we played and now we must take this into the league."
Miles Scerri scored four times as Arundel won 5-3 at Selsey in a stormy division one clash.
Gary Norgate also netted while Barry Rishman, David Poulter and Paul Lee replied for Selsey, who had Alun Morey and Mark Lee sent off.
Injuries meant the hosts finished with nine men but Mullets boss Steve Johnson was critical of their tactics.
Johnson said: "I was disgusted. If that is what the County League is all about I don't want to be part of it."
East Preston gave a debut to former Arundel keeper Andy McCarthy as they won 2-1 at Horsham YMCA.
Goals from Andy Willems and Mike Huckett gave EP victory.
Boss Vic Short said: "We played as well as we have played since I have been at the club. After Saturday we had a few honest words and they responded brilliantly."
James Laing scored twice as Hassocks beat Ringmer 2-1 and Chichester won 2-0 at Pagham thanks to Jamie Laidlaw and Neil Murfin.
Late goals from Matt Ash and Aaron MacMillan gave Southwick a 2-1 victory at Hailsham. Mark French had netted for the hosts, who had Damien Smith sent off in the first half.
Shoreham gained their first point of the season with a 0-0 draw at home to Sidlesham. Darren Annis, Matt Kelly and Joe Washington all had good chances for Shoreham while keeper Pat Lawrence denied Sidlesham with three fine stops.
