James Kirtley remains positive, despite being left out of England's winter Test squad.
The Sussex fast bowler took 13 wickets in two Tests against South Africa but has missed out on the tour of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka after selectors decided to take just three quicks.
Kirtley, who will join the one-day squad in November, said: "It's disappointing but if someone had told me in July that I was going to play Test cricket and get in one of the tour squads I would have been chuffed."
England have chosen James Anderson, Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard, although chairman of selectors David Graveney said Kirtley had made "a strong case" for selection.
"We felt Hoggard had the right attributes to prosper in the conditions we will encounter in the winter," said Graveney.
As expected, Matthew Prior has been named in the Academy squad who will meet up at Loughborough University before touring Malaysia and India.
Prior needs six runs to reach 1,000 in a season for the first time.
Director of cricket Peter Moores said: "He's an exciting prospect who deserves his chance. He's setting the world alight with his batting."
