I am writing in response to your article wherein children described Comart as a "slug" within the "swamp" of Whitehawk. These children are fearful of Comart and Whitehawk because of what they hear from adults.
Whitehawk is an area with some social problems but it also has a strong sense of community and identity.
It is certainly not an area to be avoided or for adults to create xenophobia in their children. If children have these views of the pupils of Comart, let them spend time within the school and allow them to see the reality is very different from their fears.
Whitehawk needs a school where pupils receive a good education with the same GCSE options as other schools in Brighton and Hove.
Whitehawk did not ask for a school with such massive investment that the school could not run efficiently.
The council has made the huge error of investing money without organising effective public relations and marketing.
If this happened in the commercial world, people would be held accountable. The community of Whitehawk is being punished for a mistake it did not make.
Please be aware that a large number of parents are very pleased with Comart. Instead of The Argus constantly highlighting the negative, kindly represent your readers fairly and give a more objective view of Comart and Whitehawk.
