Architects Lomax, Cassidy and Edwards is to merge with the Laboratory Investigations Unit.
The new partnership means the company is now able to offer a full range of additional services in the fields of research, science and technology.
Lomax, Cassidy and Edwards is based in Brighton and Hove and is best known for its work on Brighton's new Jubilee Library and alternative plans for the West Pier.
The Laboratory Investigations Unit (LIU) was originally a government department before becoming a private firm in 1994.
It has undertaken many ground-breaking projects and worked in an advisory capacity for government bodies and multinational companies in the UK and around the world.
Architect Nick Lomax said: "LIU has a brilliant track record and extensive experience working in the laboratories sector. This merger marks a new and exciting phase for us and we are delighted to have LIU on board."
Graham Austin, Tony Branton and Frank Drake, all from LIU, have joined the board.
Lomax Cassidy and Edwards was formed in 1990 and merged with the healthcare specialist Archimed in 1998.
