Your interesting story about Hamish, the Scottie-cross (September 3) reminded me of an incident connected with Hove Greyhound Stadium in about 1950.
I was a "regular" in those days and I recall there was an owner who moved to the Midlands, taking his hound with him.
Some time afterwards, a sorry-looking individual was discovered mooching around outside the stadium and it transpired that he had, in fact, made the long trek back from Birmingham.
Appropriately, the dog's racing name was Searcher. Beat that!
