Many people in Hove feel they are being forgotten while big brother Brighton gets all the glory.
Others say Hove is the dumping ground for many of Brighton's problems, such as parking and the controversial King Alfred towers.
They would like to go back to the old days when they say Hove was an independent town running its own services efficiently and economically.
Even though the combined council was formed only six years ago, many memories are being clouded about the old authority.
The old Hove borough council was hardly independent. Most of its services such as education were run, and not always well, by East Sussex County Council based in Lewes.
While the council was certainly economical in most matters, it spent millions on a new town hall for the glory of its own members.
It also managed to annoy thousands of people by selling off museum treasures and giving derisory sums to the arts.
The current city council has plenty of faults. But it hardly ignores Hove, as it is based there, and generally Hove gets equal treatment with Brighton, good or bad.
