Worthing and Burgess Hill made it through their FA Cup first qualifying round ties but Lewes have to settle for a replay after snatching a late equaliser.

New strike pair Gavin Geddes and Sam Francis got two goals apiece as Worthing sunk Walton Casuals 4-1.

Rebels, who took the lead at Woodside Road through Geddes on 32 minutes, moved up a gear after Emerson Barrs-James levelled with a 62nd minute penalty.

Casuals had midfielder Adam Fennell sent off for a second bookable offence after Geddes had restored the lead, and Francis wrapped up victory with two well taken strikes in the last nine minutes.

Francis took his tally to six with his late brace.

After early exits in the previous two years, Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon said he was simply thankful to get through another round as his team won 2-1 against Hellenic League visitors Abingdon United.

Croydon said: "We should have beaten them comfortably but this is what the FA Cup is all about. We've done it to teams from so-called higher leagues in the past and shouldn't expect it can't happen to us now we've gone up a grade."

Hillians fell behind to a Mark Simms goal on 37 minutes. They were level four minutes later when Nicky Wyatt was adjudged onside, rounded the keeper and placed his shot past two defenders on the line.

Hillians were again grateful to the same linesman when he signalled a shot via sub Nicky Sullivan had crossed the line before being cleared after 72 minutes.

Lewes boss Steven King hailed Peter Adeniyi's late equaliser as 'magic' as his side earned themselves a replay tomorrow evening at the Dripping Pan after a 1-1 draw at Tonbridge Angels.

The Rooks trailed on 70 minutes when Ray Powell was felled by Tony Chin and the referee's assistant flagged for a spot kick. Hamid Barr tucked it away.

Rooks levelled with nine minutes remaining when Adeniyi found a top corner.
