Stompaphunk at the Funky Buddha, Contagious at the Honeyclub, Restless at The Beach and Boygirl the Ocean Rooms are our picks of the week.
STOMPAPHUNK, Funky Buddha Lounge, Brighton, Sept 19: Not enough people have heard of Jori Hulkkonen, which is a shame because this is one Finnish DJ worth knowing about. He has produced some beautiful deep and vocal house and some decent remixes. Support comes from Radio Slave (Serge Santiago and Matt Edwards), who have recently remixed Elton John and Tiga to good effect. It runs from 10pm to 3am. It costs £5 before 11am, £8 after. Tel 01273 725541.
CONTAGIOUS, Honeyclub, Brighton, every Thursday: Is Contagious the most consistently busy club night down by the beach? It certainly seems likes it's living up to its name because it's almost always rammed. DJs Cheeky, Dulcie, Owen and Howie play dance in the main room with Johnny Comes Nicely dropping urban anthems in the back. I seem to remember there are cheap drinks too. If only I didn't have to work on Fridays. It runs from 10pm to 2am. It costs £1 before 11pm then £2/£4. Tel 07000 446639.
RESTLESS, The Beach, Brighton, Sept 26: Danny Rampling. If I could get away with just writing that I would. He's one of my favourites and has been since I first saw him play in the early Nineties - back in the days when club nights felt like one big party. Let's hope he remembers them too (I'm sure he does) while he plays his sexy, house grooves. I'm almost too excited - that's why I'm giving you a bit more warning. 10pm to 2am. £10 on the door. Tel 01273 722272.
BOYGIRL, Ocean Rooms, Brighton, Sept 20: Tomorrow's Boygirl is billed as a Something Special vs Credence Records Special. The Credence imprint has had a fantastic year and will be represented on the night by the phenomenon that is Rune RK. Rune is half of Artificial Funk and has also recorded under the pseudonym Heavy Rock, producing the stunning I Wanna Be A Drummer for Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records label. Residents Mark The Funky Vet, Steve Tennent et al, is expecting big things and I'm not going to argue. 10pm to 3am. £8 (£5 NUS until 11pm). Tel 01273 699069.
