Tesco's parking charges in Hove threaten to undermine the principles on which the development in Church Road was based.
It is not so much the initial charge but the steep rise in cost after 90 minutes that is the problem.
The intention was always that this car park served both Tesco and George Street.
After all, the council's own George Street shoppers' car park was removed to make way for the new school and supermarket.
The intention was for shoppers to linger and visit George Street to shop, eat or drink. It was not simply supposed to be a quick-stop car park for Tesco.
Concerns have also been expressed to me regarding the link and signage to George Street. This, too, was supposed to be an integrated part of the development.
I hope Tesco will address these concerns urgently.
