Workers who clean trains for some of the country's biggest rail operators started voting yesterday on whether to strike in protest at a 2 per cent pay offer.
The Rail Maritime and Transport union said the rise would leave some workers on less than the minimum wage, which increases by 30p an hour to £4.50 next week.
Hundreds of workers employed by the Carlisle Group will vote over the next few weeks on whether to take industrial action as part of a campaign for a "substantial" pay increase.
