In her desire to shunt the library to unsuitable premises, Councillor Sue John (Letters, October 10) creates needless difficulties.
If she borrowed a geometry book, Coun John would soon realise the stairwell at Hove Library is rectangular, not circular as she states.
To install a lift would be neither arduous nor unsightly. It could be operated by a simple piston, with no need for roof workings, and its sides could be elegant.
Coun John tells us the current library building will be "preserved and protected for future generations".
How? A building is not simply its facade. The library's interior - its dome and its floor (1905 oak parquet) - is equally beautiful.
In giving out thousands of leaflets, I have found that, without exception, there is much disquiet among people of all ages.
