A gay couple were punched and kicked in the head by a gang.
The attack happened in Broadfield, near Crawley, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said the two men were walking up Tollgate Hill at 3.30am when one of them took a photo with his digital camera.
A woman on the other side of the road took offence and started shouting at them.
Up to ten men then appeared. One of the victims believed the men thought that they were pursuing the woman.
He told the group they were not and that they were gay.
They were then attacked. One was kicked and punched in the head and body and suffered a suspected fractured finger and swelling to his face.
The other man was punched in the head and hit with a belt around the side of the head. He suffered swelling to the side of his head as a result.
The gang were all of Asian appearance.
