Firefighters and paramedics saved the life of a man after a suspected arson attack.

The victim, in his early 30s, was found slumped on the floor in the lounge of a bungalow in South Coast Road, Peacehaven, Brighton, last night.

Fire crews carried the man outside and resuscitated him before paramedics arrived to continue emergency treatment.

He suffered severe smoke inhalation and was later recovering at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

Fire experts and police were today examining the wrecked bungalow.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11pm and firefighters found the victim slumped on the floor of the lounge.

The fire is thought to have started in a bedroom and quickly spread to other rooms. More than 50 per cent of the bungalow was destroyed.

Fire appliances from Newhaven and Roedean, Brighton, spent an hour bringing the fire under control.

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
