Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon was relieved to get back to winning ways with victory over lowly Fleet Town.

After failing to score in four straight eastern division defeats on the road, Croydon said: "We needed a boost in confidence and I thought we played some good stuff but the hard grounds are proving a problem." "I'm sure we'd appreciate a bit of cut in the ground more than most because we have some real competitors like Adie Downey and Leo Day and it's physically tough on them at the moment."

Top scorer Nicky Sullivan took just 90 seconds to put Hillians in front but despite making nearly all the running, they failed to add to that in the first half and were showing signs of going off the boil when Sullivan scored a goal out of nothing three minutes after the break.

It was more good work by the nine-goal striker that set up the returning Steve Harper to complete the scoring after 81 minutes.

Hastings United ended their seven-game losing streak with a well deserved 1-0 win at home to Rothwell Town.

The only goal came five minutes into the second half when Chris Honey volleyed makeshift-forward Carl Rook clear of the Rothwell defence to fire home a low shot.

Rothwell offered little threat against a defence led by captain Tony Burt.

Burt said: "It was an important result because Rothwell are only a few points ahead of us. It's important in these sort of games to come out on top."
