A goal two minutes from time from Scott Ramsay gave Eastbourne Borough the points at Chippenham Town.
However, boss Garry Wilson admitted he gave his side a rollicking at half time.
He said: "Obviously they do care but it was like they were not bothered and were really laid back in the first half. I said a few strong words at half time and it obviously worked, we played really well in the second half."
Borough kicked up the slope in the first half and struggled but two great saves from Lee Hook kept them in the game.
Charlie Griffin was guilty of missing two golden chances for the home side in the second half before substitute John Westcott's cross picked out Ramsay to head home the winner.
