Is it too late to add to the newsprint mountain that is The Steve Coppell Saga?
I hope not as I hate to be left out.
Questions to be asked:
1. Why didn't The Argus start a fund-raising campaign to double Steve Coppell's wages, not unlike the £40 fund last season to save us from relegation? After all, that almost worked. Only joking - or am I?
2. A football club's contract with its manager - what's it like? As I write, I am gazing rather fondly at my beloved chocolate teapot.
3. What exactly is a Division 2 manager paid and, more importantly, what is he worth? And how much are the players paid? Perhaps the loyal, average fan who queues up to pay his £21 whatever the weather, facilities or division has a right to know.
4. Exactly how did Steve Coppell manage it? I mean, leave and still be loved. If he left, it was good luck to him, who can blame him? And if he stayed, he was a local hero, freedom of city, arise Sir Steve etc.
5. Finally, among the ranks of mercenary footballers and managers, a little loyalty would be nice. Is that too much to ask for fans whose ongoing loyalty and support is touching and, frankly, at times rather gullible?
Perhaps we should be told and perhaps The Argus can help.
