I read with great interest the plight of Mr Cridland of Brunswick Interiors, closing his successful furniture and fabric business in Western Road, Hove.

He blames high rent increases and the "rigorously enforced parking scheme" making parking in the area "atrocious".

This is the same Mr Cridland who, in March 2000, as chairman of the Brunswick Town Business Association, extolled the virtues of this draconian parking regime on the front page of this paper, only to be photographed illegally parking his van in a motorcycle-only bay just two days later.

Three years down the line he has had enough and does not even consider cheaper premises within the area because his customers will still have problems parking.

He has chosen to leave. I have no choice and will continue to fight for common sense, not revenue, to prevail.
