Turner Prize contenders Jake and Dinos Chapman were among the contributors to an event which combined high art, a car boot sale and a long-distance rally.
More than 20 acclaimed artists travelled from the Serpentine to the West Pier for the London to Brighton Art Car Rally and Boot Sale.
The brothers and others opened their cars to the public, allowing people to rummage through them for prints, photographs, catalogues and artworks.
The Chapmans' car included oddities such as disjointed mannequin arms, while fellow artist Martin Parr offered his collection of boring postcards.
The event was held as part of the opening weekend of the Brighton Photo Biennial, the UK's largest photographic festival.
An exhibition of images of the West Pier was staged in the boot of a customised Vauxhall Vectra Estate.
Other artists taking part included Rachel Lowe and Adam Chodzo.
