Mark McGhee has broken his silence over his mysterious departure from Millwall.
Albion's new boss parted company with the Lions earlier this month when they were eighth in Division One, just six points off the top of the table.
McGhee revealed to The Argus: "I've not spoken about the situation at Millwall before but I felt we'd been unable to make the signings we hoped we'd make.
"They weren't available, we couldn't find them or players went elsewhere. I felt frustrated and I also felt without those changes I'd just about squeezed every ounce out of the squad that I could."
McGhee fancied the Albion post as soon as he left Millwall.
"The day after I left I was looking for a job," he said.
"There was absolutely no doubt about that. I didn't need a holiday or a break, I was ready to work.
"There were jobs that I thought weren't for me. One of the things I have got to do is to be able to sit with a chairman, look him in the eye and commit myself to working hard for him.
"That then leads down to the players, the fans and all of that. When I thought about Brighton and started to ask a few questions I got interested and realised fairly quickly it was a job I could apply myself to."
