A scruffy Sussex maths teacher had a close shave with stardom when he was invited into London's most famous beauty parlour.
Andy Lutwyche, 30, had not changed his hairstyle for 15 years when he walked into The Salon.
He was asked to visit the venue, which is filmed for a Channel 4 reality TV show, by fellow teachers at Steyning Grammar School who thought he needed a makeover.
Millions tuned into Thursday's show to witness a team of stylists work their magic on Mr Lutwyche, of Queens Place, Shoreham.
After having his eyebrows plucked, an all-over fake tan, his haircut and a new wardrobe, Mr Lutwyche emerged a new man. He was even given the chance to wear make-up.
He said: "The show got in contact with our school to see if it had any suitable candidates and one of the teachers asked me.
"I wasn't offended. I knew I could do with it and thought it would be a laugh.
"I asked my tutor group if it was a good idea and they said I should go for it. So I did."
Mr Lutwyche, who plays for Horsham YMCA Football Club and Worthing Cricket Club, also selected four pupils to accompany him to London for the shoot to give their verdicts.
His girlfriend, Anna Field, 27, and sister, Vanessa Lutwyche, also joined him on the trip to London on Wednesday.
He said: "I wasn't really nervous until the day. I've never been on TV before so I was a bit worried about it.
"But when I got there it was strange because I didn't feel like I was being filmed at all.
"Most of the cameras were positioned high in the corners of the rooms so I forgot they were there."
When the school group arrived at The Salon, Mr Lutwyche was ruthlessly scrutinised by the team of stylists, who suggested burning his beloved baggy jumper.
Salon manager John said Mr Lutwyche was dressed like a social worker, while clothes stylist Ashley Rossiter said he looked like an A-level student.
Mr Lutwyche said: "They basically told me I looked scruffy, which is a fair assessment. I've never really been overly concerned about how I look as long as I am happy.
"I really like my baggy jumper - it's very comfy - so I was thankful they didn't burn it."
The makeover began with an eyebrow-plucking session, which almost reduced Mr Lutwyche to tears.
He said: "I was a bit worried about crying on national TV as my eyes were watering so much. I don't think I'll be trying it again."
He was sprayed with a full-body fake tan before having his hair cut and highlighted and his face plastered in tinted moisturiser and clear mascara.
He said: "It was weird wearing make-up. I will certainly not be rushing down to the chemist to buy mascara but I may consider wearing tinted moisturiser again. It was an interesting concept.
"I feel like I'm having a minor mid-life crisis because I have suddenly become very aware of how I look.
"But on the whole it was a very enjoyable day. I am so pleased I did it, even though I did get lots of abusive text messages from all the friends I told about it.
"It was a real experience and I learnt a lot."
The transformation was completed when he put on his new clothes.
Year 8 pupils Cherri Hutton, Melissa Greenfield, Scott Barron and Anil Mistry were impressed with the transformation, although Miss Field admitted she would like him no matter what he wore.
He said: "I looked very different. The whole experience opened my eyes to what is out there and it has certainly made me more aware of how I look.
"I especially like my hair. I may even keep it for the next 15 years."
