Your article about "untrained volunteers" attending accident calls for the Sussex Ambulance Trust has left me confused.
A short while ago on the local news, ambulance staff were concerned they were unable to meet the Government's call response targets.
Now they are concerned "untrained" people are being sent to give immediate care until paramedics can arrive.
No ambulance trust is going to send untrained people to accident calls. Within my professional role, I attend many nursing and care homes and have seen both ambulance trust staff and St John Ambulance staff attending to and transporting patients.
The ambulance trust staff could learn a lot about patient care from the voluntary staff.
If I had an accident I would rather be attended to by a St John or Red Cross volunteer than be left to wait 30 or 40 minutes for a paramedic.
