Division one leaders Chichester were held to a 1-1 draw by an understrength Whitehawk side.
Dean Venton gave Hawks a 16th minute lead from Ollie Rowland's cross but Steve Leigh levelled early in the second half.
Hawks boss Ian Chapman said: "With the players we had missing we worked really hard and it was probably a fair result."
East Preston went second in the table after a 3-2 win at home to Eastbourne Town, who had started the day in third spot.
Two goals from Matt Huckett and an outstanding effort from Simon Clayton put the hosts 3-0 up with just 55 minutes played. But the visitors rallied despite having Leon Cumming sent off and goals from Gary Brockwell and Graham Holman ensured a tense finish.
Simon Fox scored twice and was also brought down for the penalty which Scott Price converted as Rye and Iden United won 3-1 at Horsham YMCA. Paul Young hit a spot kick consolation for the hosts.
Rye boss Glyn White said: "It was probably our best performance of the season. We should have won more convincingly."
Two goals from David Graves helped Redhill to a 3-1 win over Sidlesham. The striker opened the scoring with a header from a Nathan Hartigan free kick before Bronek Dabrowa added a second before half time. Graves scored ten minutes from time to seal the win.
Early strikes from Chris Johnson and Steve Davis set Ringmer on their way to a 2-1 win at home to Pagham. Dave Speller reduced the deficit in the second half but it was not enough.
Three second half goals were the difference between St Leonards and Shoreham at The Firs.
Poor finishing from the home side meant the scores were level at 0-0 at half time but Jody Ricketts, Dave Fisher and Michael Morgan all hit the target after the break to give their side a 3-0 win.
Sidley United manager Peter Heritage celebrated his 41st birthday by watching his side win 3-1 over Selsey.
Adam Day opened the scoring from the penalty spot. The visitors drew level before the break but strikes from Matt Dadswell and Wes Tate sealed victory.
Southwick and Three Bridges shared the points in a 0-0 stalemate.
