She only took an interest in local radio to pad out her CV, but thousands of people will soon be waking up with Sarah Gorrell.
The award-winning presenter has won the race to permanently replace JoAnne Good as the morning presenter on BBC Southern Counties Radio.
Sarah, 36, is moving from the South-West and will begin hosting the Brighton Breakfast Show early next month.
JoAnne has moved to BBC Radio London and 80 would-be presenters auditioned for her job via a special phone line.
Guests including former ITN newsreader Carol Barnes and comedians Mark Little and Julian Clary have been among those presenting the show while the search for JoAnne's permanent replacement continued.
Sarah, who has a two year-old son Jacob, is 12 years younger than her predecessor and will uproot from BBC Radio Cornwall where she presents an evening show.
She lives with her partner, Justin, who works for rival commercial station, Plymouth Sound, and the pair will move to Brighton.
Sarah, a double Sony Award winner, is not afraid to tackle sensitive subjects and one of her award-winning programmes was about suicide.
She said: "Brighton is such a vibrant place and this is a such a fantastic job. It's a bit daunting following on from JoAnne, who was such a huge success."
Sarah, a frequent visitor to Brighton in her youth, was born in Guildford and started to get involved in local radio during her final year at Nottingham University because she wanted to put something extra on her CV.
Daphne Skinnard, an assistant editor on BBC Radio Cornwall, said: "Our loss is Brighton's gain."
