Rookie goalkeeper Richard Martin was beaten by one of his team-mates on his debut for Albion reserves at the New Den yesterday.
A first half own goal by central defender Adam Virgo helped Millwall to a flattering 2-0 victory over Dean White's side in the Pontin's Holidays Cup.
Martin, 16, could do nothing when Trevor Robinson's overhit free-kick to the far post was touched past him by Virgo after 27 minutes.
Albion almost went ahead in the opening minute, Daniel Marney and Dan Beck combining for John Piercy to volley over from 12 yards.
Geoff Pitcher, making his comeback from bowel surgery against one of his former clubs, also went close twice early on and Marney just lost out in a race with Lions' keeper Simon Overland early in the second half.
The Seagulls were punished from another set piece on 54 minutes, Alex Tiesse heading in a Charlie Hearn corner from close range.
Albion have taken one point from their first two group games and have little reaching the semi-finals.
Albion Reserves: Martin; P. Watson, Harding, El-Abd, Virgo, Wilkinson, Beck, Pitcher, Marney, B. Watson, Piercy. Subs: Breach for Wilkinson (42), Robinson for B. Watson (46), Budd for Pitcher (61), Keeley, Fillery.
