A bride and groom were joined at the church by the best man - and by man's best friend.

James and Kathryn Martin, from Hove, love their pet dog Clint so much, they decided to make him page boy - or page pup - at their wedding.

And they could have been forgiven for saying "Fi-do" instead of "I do" as they exchanged vows.

The black-and-white collie cross carried the bride's lucky horseshoe around his neck and wore a red rose in his collar to match her bouquet.

He also posed for wedding snaps outside the church with the happy couple.

Kathryn, a 32-year-old buyer for Kimberly Clarke in Brighton, said Clint stole the show.

She said: "We wanted him to be our page dog because he is such an important part of our lives.

"Our friends and family all love him and wanted him to be there on our big day.

"We initially thought he could be our best man but he gets frightened around crowds of people so this was the next best thing.

"He coped very well with all the attention.

"Everyone was around him taking pictures outside the church - no one had any interest in us at all."

Clint, named after US country singer Clint Black, was one of three dogs at the wedding.

The trio, also including a whippet cross and a brown mongrel, greeted guests.

The wedding reception also had a canine theme.

Instead of the typical plastic bride and groom models on top of the wedding cake, there was a replica of a black-and-white dog.

The top table was decorated with a woollen bride, groom and dog knitted by Kathryn's mother, who lives in Devon.

Kathryn said: "Clint is so beautiful and has transformed our lives. He brings us, our families and friends a lot of laughter.

"We're pretty obsessed with him - we've just had a calendar made of pictures of him for Christmas."

Kathryn and James, 30, first fell in love with Clint at Shoreham Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre a year ago.

Within days, the dog was settling into his new home with them.

Sharon Prior, Shoreham Dogs trust manager, said: "Clint is a really lovely dog and we remember him well.

"We're very proud he did such a good job at the Martins'

wedding."
