As secretary of the Hove branch of the Children's Society, I am writing on behalf of our members to express our concerns at the planned closure of the St Gabriel's Family Centre in Wellington Road, Brighton, by the Children's Society.
This project has been running since 1979 and has been used as a model for setting up family centres all over the country.
Its work involves helping parents under 19, therapeutic work with looked-after children and their carers and extensive family support services.
Brighton and Hove City Council has earmarked part-funding for the future of the project but cannot fund the whole project at such short notice.
It is essential, therefore, the future of this valuable project is reviewed and safeguarded.
We need to raise support to prevent the closing of this resource.
