Two wanted men were caught after they stopped police to ask for directions.
PCs Matthew Pearmain and Darren Brett were in their patrol car in Hastings when the car in front came to a stop and hazard lights came on.
PC Brett said: "We pulled alongside and the driver asked how to get to the nearest garage - they said they needed petrol to get back to London."
The officers were suspicious and checks revealed one man was wanted for court order breaches and the other for failing to appear in court on a burglary charge.
The officers found burglary equipment in the car including pliers, a bent chisel, parcel tape, gloves and an alarm bypass wire.
The two men were arrested.
