Albion are hoping to sign Mark Yeates on a permanent deal.
Midfielder Yeates, 18, called up by the Republic of Ireland under-19s, is halfway through his month's loan from Tottenham.
Manager Mark McGhee told the club's website: "We'd keep him permanently.
"I've said already that I knew before he came here what a good player he is and I imagined he would do well in this team and he has done that."
McGhee would settle for an extension to his loan for now.
He said: "That's down to Tottenham. We'd like him We'd like to keep him longer but we'll speak to Tottenham about that."
Assistant manager Bob Booker told The Argus: "We want to extend Mark's stay at least until the end of the season but we're in Tottenham's hands."
Booker revealed last night any plans to bring in a new goalkeeper as cover to Ben Roberts with Michel Kuipers recovering from car crash injuries were on hold.
It would mean goalkeeping coach John Keeley being on the bench for the Wrexham home game tomorrow.
He said: "We hope to get Michel back in harness quickly because we believe he has no major injuries. We'll hopefully know more in a couple of days. In the meantime, we'll stick with Keelo as cover."
