Changes are likely to be made to a controversial traffic calming scheme following objections.
Brighton and Hove City Council's environment committee will be recommended on Thursday not to introduce a 20mph speed limit in the West Hill area near Seven Dials.
Improvements will be carried out to bus stops in Upper Gloucester Road to make them accessible.
Speed cushions will replace round-topped humps in Buckingham Road and one set will be repositioned.
Build outs near St Paul's School will be carried out in association with a redesign of the entrance.
Alternative measures will be considered for Clifton Street and Buckingham Street in consultation with the residents.
Reducing the scheme as proposed means it will not be possible to introduce the 20mph zone.
Green ward councillors Simon Williams, Sue Paskins and Keith Taylor had reservations about the humps. So did the bus company and ambulance service.
Transport councillor Simon Battle said: "The West Hill traffic calming scheme has been revised in response to the feedback received."
