Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon was well pleased with another point on the road as his side took their unbeaten run to nine matches at Ashford Town.
Croydon said: "Considering we had quite a few inexperienced players out there, it has to be a good result. I thought we did well."
Both Ashford goals came from Joby Thorogood penalties, the second of which was disputed by alleged offender Julian Curnow.
Steve Harper underlined his quality with a superb opener on 14 minutes but the visitors then went a little flat and after drawing level when Ben Andrews handled on 28 minutes, Ashford had chances to punish Hillians.
The woodwork came to their rescue seven minutes later but their luck was out on 57 minutes with the second penalty award.
Croydon then made changes and the deserved equaliser came ten minutes later when Nicky Sullivan headed in an excellent cross by Steve Dallaway.
