Horsham is not an obvious hotbed of talent in the world of thrash metal.

But up-and-coming band Slaughterhouse are proving a real knock-out.

In fact, the mother of a band member's girlfriend was knocked out cold in the mosh pit at one of their gigs.

Lin Charman has seen Slaughterhouse about ten times but it's a world away from her day job as a publicist for smooth R'n'B star Craig David.

Lin, who remained coy about her age but has a 17-year-old daughter, Gemma, said: "It's a fantastic band.

"I usually sit at the back pretending to knit because I'm a mum. But one day one of Gemma's friends dragged me to the mosh pit.

"I said there was no way I could go there because people jump up and down like monkeys on strings. But then I thought why not?

"I started getting hoisted up and down by rabid teenagers and this guy came up to me with a big grin on his face and butted me on the head.

"I fell over and the next thing I knew, people were giving me glasses of water and asking if I was all right."

Lin emailed Radio One DJ Scott Mills about the incident last week and it sparked a debate about other injuries sustained at gigs.

She added: "They're an absolutely brilliant band and I've not been able to fault them yet. But I'm definitely not going moshing again."

Gemma, who goes out with guitarist Will Pearce, said she goes to all the gigs.

Lead singer Ed Moffatt, 18, said the incident where Lin was knocked out was not typical of their usual shows.

He said: "That was a slightly out-of-control gig. We didn't end up playing more than a sound check because it was absolutely crazy.

"We came second in the Battle of the Bands in Horsham and we've also finished recording a CD.

"We were at the studio when we got a text message saying we were named on Radio One."
