Burgess Hill boss Gary Croydon was furious as his side surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw at home to sixth-placed Folkestone Invicta.
It was not the final result that upset him but the needless penalty that threw the visitors a lifeline with 19 minutes remaining. Croydon blamed Matt Geard for the foul on James Dryden when the ball appeared to be going away from goal.
Pat Gannon almost saved the spot kick by half-time substitute James Millar but was powerless to keep out Paul Lamb's well struck long range effort three minutes from time as it took a deflection to dip under the bar.
The visitors were good value for a point and Croydon admitted: "If you had offered me 2-2 before the start I'd have taken it against what I consider to be one of the best sides in the league. But the stupid way we let them back in it leaves me speechless.
"There were plenty of plusses to come out of the game but we worked hard and it would have been a great win."
Hillians always look capable of scoring these days and they went in front on 27 minutes when Ben Andrews' header was touched over the line by Nicky Sullivan.
Geard delivered the perfect corner for that goal and it was his deflected free kick that made it 2-0 after 42 minutes.
Folkestone made most of the running after the break but were grateful to their woodwork once in each half as Geard and Steve Harper were denied.
