New signing Ian Pulman made an immediate impact as Eastbourne Borough ended a barren run at Tiverton Town.
The 19-year-old striker, on a month's loan from Margate, scored one and had a hand in the other two goals to the delight of boss Garry Wilson.
"I thought Ian was great. He gave us more of a natural balance and linked well with Scott Ramsay up front," said Wilson.
"It has taken us a long time to get another striker and we were fortunate to get him, but it was well worth all the work."
In an eventful opening, Pulman's fourth-minute goal was cancelled out by Chris Holloway's header seven minutes later.
In the 16th minute, a foul on the new man led to Ollie Rowland nodding in Danny Simmonds' free-kick.
Borough were forced to defend doggedly for long spells but in the 59th minute Ramsay made it 3-1 after Pulman's shot had been parried by keeper Stuart Fraser.
Ramsay blasted a penalty high and wide and instead of 4-1 it was 3-2 as Steve Winter slotted home a last-gasp spot kick following a foul by Stuart Tuck.
