Mile Oak edged closer to safety with a second successive win, this time 1-0 at home to Crawley Down.

Neil Roberts struck the only goal after 53 minutes.

Of the bottom three, Lancing and Haywards Heath both lost while bottom side Pease Pottage fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with promotion chasing Steyning.

Lancing's dismal run continued with a 4-0 reverse at home to Peacehaven. Wes Gallagher scored with two headers while Kieran Currie and fullback Lee Watts also found the net.

Peacehaven had gone into the game on the back of a bad run. Manager Mick Maskell said: "The difference was I was able to select a side this week. Last week I could only put a side together."

Paul Ford made his debut after signing from Ringmer while experienced striker Jon Lockhart made his latest comeback from retirement when he came on as a second half substitute.

Haywards Heath lost 2-0 at home to Wealden with Leighton Allen and Dan Merry getting the goals.

Heath manager Jason Robson said: "We were like ten year olds for the first two goals and you just can't do that whatever level you play at.

"We are making progress but games are running out. We just need to beat one of the better sides in the division and that will give us what we need."

Pease Pottage trailed 2-0 at half time against Steyning after goals from Ben German and Stuart Anderson. However, Dave Thornback pulled one back on the hour and Gareth Neathey struck a late equaliser.

General manager Ryan Sallows said: "We showed a lot of character. Losing to Haywards Heath the week before really hurt the players. I think we had gone there expecting to win. They had a much better attitude on Saturday. Maybe it was the shock they needed."

Sallows revealed the club had been approached by someone wanting to take over as manager but he insisted they were happy with current boss Garry Blunt, who missed Saturday's game due to a family engagement.

Broadbridge Heath and Midhurst both produced good wins.

Heath triumphed 4-0 at home to Westfield. Ramin Jarvand, who has returned to the club from Horsham YMCA, claimed the first goal although it may have gone in off a defender, James Brown got the second with a terrific strike and Paul Gallagher added the other two either side of half time.

Midhurst won 3-2 away to second placed Worthing United thanks to two goals from 16-year-old substitute Ollie White, including an 89th -minute winner. Chris May scored Midhurst's other goal while Shelley and Vaughan netted for the hosts.
