Randy Duck is easing back to fitness, with a bit of help from an NBA star.

Bears are taking advice from Washington Wizards as they ease the skipper back from his adductor problem.

Wizards' Gilbert Arenas, a guard not unlike Duck in playing style, has just come back from a similar injury.

Steve Stricker, head trainer at Washington, has passed on details of Arenas's recovery to Brighton.

Duck said: "I take little bits from everyone.

"They are telling me what to expect, what I'm looking for when I'm doing exercises and how to push to a point where it doesn't hurt but it fatigues you.

"It's interesting to read some of the things to look for and to recognise them."

Most of Duck's recovery, though, is being masterminded by orthopaedic staff in Sussex and things are going well.

He added: "I've been cleared to start stretching and doing strengthening work.

"I did a full-on workout and went in the pool as well.

"I've done two treatments every day over the past two weeks. It's still uncomfortable but I feel myself getting stronger."

The Wizards tie-up is thanks to Pat Connelly, Bears' assistant coach who previously worked in the NBA.

Bears chief Nick Nurse, due back in time for the Chester game a week on Saturday, has praised his team's work in his absence.

He said; "I think the team are doing well. I'm more proud of them now than ever but I'm coming back and I'm raring to go."
