If Norman Baker's argument against dualling the A27 from Polegate to Lewes (The Argus, March 3) was taken to its logical conclusion, the dual carriageways between Lewes, Brighton and Shoreham would never have been built.
Traffic would still wend its way along single carriageways which would result in delays, deaths and diversions similar to those experienced by those unfortunate to have to travel between Polegate and Lewes regularly.
Mr Baker also argues that car users should use the railway, despite the fact that more passengers would need many more trains and the current service struggles to run efficiently.
As someone who usually votes for Mr Baker's party, I am glad I don't have to decide whether or not to vote for him in my area. What with his opposition to the stadium adjoining the university campus at Falmer, his support for those responsible for the burning of effigies at Firle and his resistance to sensible proposals for dual carriageways linking Polegate to the rest of the A27, the letters LD seem to stand for LuDdite rather than Liberal Democrat.
Come on, Norman, this is the 21st Century, not the 19th!
