Assistant manager Nick Greenwood believes Eastbourne Borough must perform for the whole game if they are keep their promotion hopes alive.
Borough drew 2-2 with FA Trophy semi-finalists Hednesford at Priory Lane and are six points above the cut-off zone for the Conference South next season.
Darren Simkin scored with a long-range effort to put the visitors in front but Scott Ramsay's 26th goal of the season and a 30-yard strike by Stuart Tuck gave Borough a half-time lead.
Hednesford equalised on 63 minutes through striker Steve Anthrobus and had good chances at the end to win it.
Greenwood said: "I have mixed feelings about the game because we performed well for half of it but not the other.
"We thought we would go and kill the game off after having the lead at half time but it didn't work out that way and we were hanging on in the end."
