Eastbourne Town's players were kept on the pitch at half-time even though they were on their way to a 9-0 demolition of lowly Shoreham.
Boss Dave Winterton and coach Mick French were 'embarassed' by their side's first half display, even though Town turned round with a 3-0 lead.
"They embarassed us so we decided to embarass them," said Winterton. "Mick gave them a rollicking and so did I and it had the desired effect.
"We were poor in the first half even though we scored three goals, but we went out all guns blazing in the second and got some great goals. It just proved that you can't do it just for an hour, you've got to perform for 90 minutes.
Gary Brockwell led the scoring spree with a hat-trick. Yemi Odubade (2), Lee Walsh, Graham Holman, Bobby Godfrey and youth team striker Ben Davies also netted as Town moved to within a point of second-placed Chichester.
