I was extremely alarmed to read your headline "Why Women can feel safe with an iPod".
Women should not feel safe with an iPod. Nor for that matter should men.
As Dr Bull says in your article, the use of walkmans and iPods makes people feel out of tune with the world, unaware of their surroundings and therefore vulnerable to attack.
One of the first rules of personal safety for both men and women is to be alert and aware of the possibility of danger.
If you are in a world of your own listening to music you are unlikely to notice anything untoward or hear someone approach you.
While Dr Bull would no doubt agree with this, your headline was misleading.
iPods and walkmans used in the right circumstances are wonderful inventions but people should respect the fact that there are also dangers in using them in the wrong circumstances.
