Assistant manager Dave Swindlehurst saw ten-man Crawley go four points clear at the top and then insisted: "The hard work starts now."
Reds won 1-0 at Chippenham thanks to a close-range strike by Danny Marney after 67 minutes.
Crawley were reduced to ten men on 85 minutes when Justin Gregory was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Victory was made sweeter when nearest title-rivals Weymouth lost 2-1 at home to Welling. But Swindlehurst has told his players not to relax.
He said: "It is in our hands, but we have got some very difficult games coming up."
New midfielder Fiston Manuella was on the bench for Reds following a four-figure move from Conference side Farnborough.
