Haywards Heath are preparing for one of the biggest games in their history after being hauled to within one point of the National League drop zone.
Heath lost 26-12 at second-placed Blackheath in division three south, despite a battling display, and heard that survival rivals Dings Crusaders had pipped Basingstoke 21-20.
Those results make the visit of Weston-super-Mare to Whitemans Green on Saturday crucial in the fight to stay up.
Skipper Alex Meredith, who expects to return from injury next week, watched defeat at Blackheath and felt there were signs of promise.
He said: "I was proud of the boys. It was 12-12 at half time and we were playing really well. We took the game to them but on three occasions we squandered chances when we could have scored tries."
John Lake was outstanding on his first start at No. 8 and set up a score for James Mackie. Stuart Charnley also crossed and Huw Griffin kicked a conversion.
Lewes remain in the London Three South East play-off spot after a stirring comeback at home to Maidstone.
They rallied from 13-8 down to win 35-13 with man-of-the-match Duncan Barton scoring two tries. Sean Taylor, Liam Craig-Davies, Scott Patto and Dave Hemsley also crossed with Dave Tyrell kicking two conversions and a penalty.
Chichester's hopes of catching Lewes were fading with three minutes to go against Tonbridge Juddian at Oaklands Park. Then they scored two tries to turn a 16-8 deficit into a 20-16 win.
Alex Knight-Barnard gave them a lifeline after great interplay between backs and forwards, with Nick Stanton converting. Then a lineout drive led to James Mildenhall touching down as Steve Bradford helped shove him over the line.
Ben Polhill scored Chi's first try with Stanton adding a penalty.
Hove are virtually confirmed as champions of Sussex One. They are four points clear of second-placed Hastings with a massive advantage in terms of points difference. Both sides have two games to play. Ditchling clinched the Sussex Three crown by beating Robertsbridge 27-14 while Plumpton beat Barns Green 30-0 in the decider for runners-up spot.
