I don't know if Brendan Montague was at the same show as I when I saw and enjoyed Jenny Eclair.
She wasn't, as it happens, "sporting" her black-rimmed glasses (as a wearer of glasses, I wished she had) and nor was she smoking or drinking on stage.
She opened a bottle of water but I don't think she took any sips from it.
I would imagine that those that go to see her are aware of her act and so weren't shocked or suprised at her "strutting round the stage, laying on the floor..." etc (how shocking).
Audience members were visibly stunned? Please! This is Jenny Eclair, this is Brighton, this is 2004.
It seems to me Mr Montague was offered, or took, the wrong gig and should have gone to review the local parish church singalong if he didn't want to have to see a woman talking about womanly stuff.
