I read with great interest that work has started on the much-debated sea-front cycle route through Worthing.
I wonder, after all the recent talk of council tax increases and lack of available money, how the council can still justify spending £280,000 on a scheme that will only benefit a very small percentage of Worthing's population. What happens if you live inland and wish to use a cycle route?
I also wonder how the health and safety people view pedestrians sharing a pavement with people on cycles? To my mind, it is an accident waiting to happen.
I have been brought up to believe that, if you ride a cycle, you do it on the roads. If an accident does happen then I just hope the councils are well insured as, if it is me who is hit by someone riding a cycle on one of the councils designated cycle routes, I would have no hesitation in using one of the many advertised agencies to take the council to court.
