Pressure? Crawley don't know the meaning of the word according to manager Francis Vines.

Last night's home game against FA Trophy semi-finalists Hednesford was a potential banana skin, but it seems nobody told the Crawley players.

The game turned into a 90-minute demonstration of why Crawley are four points clear in the Dr Martens premier division.

Charlie MacDonald and Paul Armstrong put Reds in control at half-time and Peter Fear added two more goals after the break. Defender Sean Hankin got in on the act with his first for the club and substitute Joff Vansittart headed home a late sixth.

Title rivals Weymouth, who won 3-1 against Worcester last night, felt the pressure of the championship race on Saturday when they lost 2-1 at home to Welling.

Vines insists his players will not suffer similar problems and believes last night proved it.

He said: "The players don't need a boost in confidence. It is there for all to see. We fancied it from the start and when we are like that we are very hard to beat.

"At times it was like watching a game of keep-ball. I would like to say I felt sorry for the opposition but I don't because we totally dominated from start to finish."

Crawley went ahead with embarrassing ease after just eight minutes when Danny Marney drilled in a low cross which MacDonald converted from close range.

MacDonald went close again moments later as Reds sliced through the visiting defence and Marney could have also added to the advantage before Armstrong did six minutes before half-time.

Mo Harkin found the former Albion midfielder following short corner routine and Armstrong drilled a shot from 30 yards into the top corner.

Crawley were guilty of complacency just before the interval when they let Hednesford pull one back with their first attack of the game. Captain Kevin Hemsley failed to clear his lines on the left flank and Lee Hines stole the ball and squared to former Millwall and Wimbledon striker Steve Anthrobus who made no mistake from six yards.

The visitors were buoyed by the goal and caused problems after the break but Reds raised their game and added to their lead on 51 minutes.

Marney, pushed out to the left flank after Gregory was replaced by Vansittart, swung in a cross which Fear, arriving late in the box, headed past Young.

Fear was in the right place at the right time again seven minutes later. MacDonald cut the ball back to the ex-Wimbledon player who side-footed home.

It took just 60 seconds for Crawley to kill off the hapless visitors. MacDonald again proved too much for the Hednesdford defence and he squared to Hankin who thundered a left-foot drive into the bottom corner.

Reds had to play with ten men for the remaining 12 minutes after Harkin was stretchered off with an ankle injury and all the substitutes had been used.

It made no difference to Reds, however, as Vansittart headed home at the near post from a Marney corner.

Vines said: "We think Mo (Harkin) has only twisted his ankle, so hopefully he'll be okay. He has gone for a precautionary X-ray and we'll have to wait and see if it's serious."
