Albion will have to hand over half of the profit they make to Chelsea if they ever sell Leon Knight.

The mega-rich Londoners negotiated an extraordinary 50 per cent sell-on clause when he joined the Seagulls from Stamford Bridge on a free transfer last August.

It means Knight is likely to remain with Albion until at least the end of his current contract, which runs out in the summer of 2005.

The Seagulls would have to inflate the asking price to make a sale worthwhile and that would detract potential buyers.

Albion faced a similar dilemma with Knight's goalscoring predecessor Bobby Zamora.

Bristol Rovers pocketed £420,000 of the £1.4 million profit Albion made from the sale of West Ham striker Zamora to Spurs last summer because of a 30 per cent sell-on.

Knight will have his new white boots back on for Saturday's home game against Colchester.

He wore them for the first time when he scored in Albion's recent 3-0 win at Withdean against Tranmere.

The boots, part of a three-year sponsorship deal with Reebok, have not been used by Knight in the two away games the Seagulls have played since then.

He will only wear them to co-ordinate with Albion's blue and white home strip.
